Google has finally come out with his own phone to compete well with iPhone in the mobile space. Even though there have been few smartphones which other companies launched in the market in competition to iPhone like Droid by Motorola, I think Nexus is going to pose most serious threat to Apple. Hardware wise Nexus compare well against iPhone and even though there are far fewer applications available on Android market compared to iTunes app store, most Android users won't miss as most useful ones are available for Android. By going through technical specs of Nexus one and iPhone, below is the comparison chart I created comparing these two devices.
| Iphone | Nexus one | |
| Height x Width x Depth | 115.5mm x 62.1mm x 12.3 mm | 119mm x 59.8mm x 11.5mm |
| Weight | 135 gms | 130 gms (100 w/o battery) |
| Processor | ARM 600 MHz | Qualcomm 1 GHz |
| Display | 3.5 inch 480 x 320 pixels | 3.7 inch 800 x 480 pixels |
| Storage | 32 GB | 4 GB (expandable to 32 GB) |
| Storage available for applications | 32 GB | 190 MB |
| Camera | 3 Megapixel | 5 Megapixel |
| Flash | No | Yes |
| Video | Yes (@30 frames per second) | Yes (@20 frames per second) |
| Applications | more than 90000 | 20,000 |
| WiFi | Yes | Yes |
| GPS | Yes | Yes |
| Cell tower assisted location | Yes | Yes |
| Talk time/Standby time | 5 hrs/300 hrs | 7 hrs/250 hrs |
| 3g internet time/wi-fi internet time | 5 hrs/9 hrs | 5 hrs/6.5 hrs |
| Price w/o contract | $599 | $529 |
| Price with contract | $199 | $179 |
| Color | White/Black | Gray |
| Multitasking | No | Yes |
| Zoom in/out | Yes | No |
Both phones compare well as far as essential features go like WiFi, GPS, Vido etc. Both are very light and look very attractive. There are some really nice features which you get in Nexus which are missing in iPhone. Multitasking, 5 MB camera with flash and more pixels on screen in Nexus One look very attractive to me. Apple still looks more attractive when it comes to applications on app store. Also ability to zoom in/out on iPhone and more storage are other features where iPhone leads. Personally I would pick Nexus One because of more pixels on screen and 5 MB camera but I would wait for the price drop before I buy one.
